Himeville Nature Reserve Campsite

Himeville is the last village before you hit the Sani Pass road in earnest, and the nature reserve campsite here is a legitimate overnight option for rigs staging for an early morning border-post push. The reserve is compact — mostly wetland and grassland — and the campsite is simple but serviceable: ablution block, braai stands, grassed pitches. It’s a quiet spot with zero frills and a lot of Southern Berg ambience. The Umzimkulu River headwaters run nearby. Cell service is weak but exists.

Himeville is 20km from Underberg on a good tarred road, so it’s an easy stop for final resupply before heading up. The campsite sits inside the Himeville Nature Reserve boundary — check in at the reserve office. Capacity is limited; arrive before 4pm. In winter, frost is guaranteed and temps drop hard — pack accordingly if you’re there June through August.
