Faroe Islands

Eiðisvatn — Eiði Lake and Atlantic Double Coastline Viewpoint

Point of Interest

Eiðisvatn is the lake sitting just inland from the village of Eiði on Eysturoy, and the ridge above it is where the Faroe Islands hand you something genuinely wild: a sliver of land so thin you can stand on the high ground and watch two separate stretches of open Atlantic on either side. The lake itself is calm and grey-green, flanked by steep grassy slopes that roll into cliff edges. There’s no fence, no guardrail, no interpretive sign — just wind, basalt, and sea. It’s a legitimate overlanding POI because the road from Eiði toward the ridge is narrow, exposed, and rewarding.

Access is via the main road through Eiði village on Eysturoy. The village is small but reachable on paved road from the subsea tunnel network. Weather shifts fast up here — low cloud can drop visibility to near zero inside of 20 minutes. Wind routinely tops 60 mph on the exposed ridge. Go in summer for the best chance at a clear view, but don’t count on it.

Two oceans, one ridge, zero guardrails.
