Tjørnuvík — North Coast Beach and Risin og Kellingin Sea Stack Viewpoint
Tjørnuvík sits at the dead end of a valley on northern Streymoy, hemmed in by steep ridges and the open North Atlantic. The beach is black sand and gravel, the surf is violent, and just offshore stand Risin og Kellingin — the Giant and the Witch — two basalt sea stacks that feature in Faroese legend. The village is tiny and quiet. Park at the end of the road and walk down to the shoreline. No barriers, no guardrails. The rip current here is no joke; don’t wade in.
The road into Tjørnuvík descends a steep single-track with passing places — manageable in a standard vehicle but tight with a long-wheelbase rig or trailer. The drive in from Haldarsvík takes about 10 minutes. No formal camping; this is a day-use destination. Combine it with the Saksun valley to the west for a full northern Streymoy loop on good gravel roads.
Sea stacks, black sand, raw Atlantic edge.
