Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest — Flat Camp Campground
Flat Camp sits along the Methow River on Lost River Road, roughly 7 miles past Mazama heading toward Hart’s Pass. It’s a small, primitive USFS campground — no hookups, pit toilets, and fire rings. The river runs right alongside and the canyon walls close in above you. Sites are first-come, first-served, and in mid-summer it fills on Friday afternoons. Space is limited so if you’re rolling in late on a Friday in July, have a backup plan. The vibe is quiet, forested, and local — no RV parade out here.
Lost River Road transitions from paved to gravel past this point heading toward the pass. High-clearance 2WD handles this section fine in dry conditions. Early season snow can linger well into June at the upper elevations, but Flat Camp itself is typically accessible by mid-May. No drinking water on site — filter from the Methow or come topped off.
River-side staging before Hart's Pass switchbacks.
