Saguenay National Park and Preserve
Split between the Tucson Mountain District west of the city and the Rincon Mountain District to the east, this park protects dense stands of towering saguaro cacti that can live over 200 years. The western district offers easier access with paved roads and shorter hiking trails, while the eastern district climbs from desert floor to pine forest at 8,000+ feet. Desert Museum Loop Road in the west district provides vehicle-accessible viewing of classic Sonoran Desert landscape.
The park sees heavy visitation in winter months when temperatures are pleasant. Summer brings extreme heat with daytime temps over 100°F, making early morning or late afternoon the only viable times for exploration. Both districts have visitor centers, but camping is limited to the backcountry in the Rincon Mountains requiring permits.
