Tatchun Creek Territorial Campground — Klondike Highway North

Established Campground

Tatchun Creek Territorial Campground sits on the east side of the Klondike Highway roughly 50 km north of Carmacks, tucked into the boreal spruce where the creek drains toward the Yukon River lowlands. It’s a no-frills Yukon government site — pit toilets, fire rings, picnic tables, hand-pump water when operational. It draws lighter traffic than the bigger highway camps, which means you can usually find a site without competition. Good staging point for the Twin Peaks Mining Road runs out of Carmacks or the Pelly Crossing corridor to the north.

The highway here is paved and accessible to any vehicle. The campground pull-in is straightforward gravel. Water from the hand pump should be treated as a backup — confirm it’s working when you arrive. Best season runs late May through early September before the frosts get serious and the days shorten fast up here.

Quiet creek camp on the Klondike Highway.
