Lake Laberge Territorial Campground — Klondike Highway
Lake Laberge Territorial Campground sits on the Klondike Highway north of Whitehorse, right on the shore of the sprawling lake that Service immortalized in ‘The Cremation of Sam McGee.’ That literary pedigree aside, this is a solid territorial campground with pit toilets, fire grates, picnic tables, and direct lake access for water. The lake itself is massive and exposed — winds can come up fast and whitecap conditions are common by afternoon. Sunsets here are genuinely ridiculous in late June when the sun barely dips below the horizon.
The campground is accessible off the North Klondike Highway on a short gravel spur — most stock rigs handle it fine. It sits roughly 30 kilometres north of Whitehorse, making it a first or last night option for rigs staging on the Klondike Highway corridor. Fills up on summer weekends with Whitehorse locals. Water from the lake should be treated. No reservations — first come, first served.
Sam McGee's lake. Your campfire. Zero regrets.
