Aishihik Lake Territorial Campground — Aishihik Road

Established Campground

Aishihik Lake Territorial Campground sits on the southwest shore of Aishihik Lake, accessible via the Aishihik Road that branches north off the Alaska Highway west of Haines Junction. The lake is enormous, cold, and dead quiet most of the season — expect Arctic grayling in the shallows and zero cell signal. Sites are basic: outhouses, fire rings, and enough flat ground for a truck and trailer. This is a low-traffic stop with a wilderness feel that developed campgrounds on the main highway completely lack.

Aishihik Road is a maintained gravel road — passable for high-clearance 2WD in dry conditions, though soft shoulders after rain can cause trouble for heavy rigs. The route puts you in good position for exploring the Dezadeash Lake to Bates Lake backcountry or the Donjek corridor. Roughly 100 km from Haines Junction; fuel up before you leave the highway.

Big cold lake, zero crowd, real wilderness camp.
