Kluane Lake — Congdon Creek Territorial Campground Viewpoint
Congdon Creek sits on the northeast shore of Kluane Lake right off the Alaska Highway, roughly 22 km north of Destruction Bay. The viewpoint here is one of the most dramatic on the entire highway — the lake is 70 km long, fed by glacier melt, and on a calm morning it mirrors the Duke Depression and the peaks beyond. This is also the termination point of the Kluane Lake North Shore Road overland route, making it a natural debrief spot after running that track. The campground itself has sites, outhouses, and a boat launch used by local anglers chasing lake trout.
Alaska Highway access is dead simple — the pullout and campground entrance are signed and visible from the road. Best light hits in the morning when the St. Elias snowfields glow. Shoulder season (late August, September) means fewer RVs and better colour in the willows along the lakeshore. Managed by Yukon Government Parks — no reservations, first come first served.
Kluane's north shore — glacier lake at its biggest.
