Watson Lake Airport (CYWL) is a real, functioning regional airstrip that sits at the edge of town on the Alaska Highway. For overlanders, it matters because it’s the closest emergency medevac point for anyone running the Hyland River Road, Pelly Banks Road, or the McArthur Wildlife Sanctuary routes into the deep south Yukon and BC border country. If your crew includes anyone with a SPOT or inReach, Watson Lake Airport is where SAR and medevac out of. It’s also the last clear landmark before the road network thins dramatically heading south and east — a hard callout on a safety plan.

The airport itself is not a visitor attraction, but the town of Watson Lake immediately adjacent has fuel, grocery resupply, and the famous Signpost Forest. Use this as your final services check and comms confirmation point before pushing into any of the isolated south Yukon routes. Cell signal exists in town but drops fast once you leave the highway.
