Fort Selkirk — Yukon River Historic Townsite Viewpoint

Fort Selkirk sits at the confluence of the Pelly and Yukon Rivers, roughly 85 kilometres north of Carmacks. There is no road access — you get here by jet boat or floatplane from Minto Landing or Carmacks. That said, it’s a direct payoff for overlanders running the Minto Resettlement Road or Dawson Range backcountry routes who arrange a river shuttle. The townsite preserves original HBC trading post buildings, a church, and Northern Tutchone cultural heritage — Yukon government maintains it as a heritage site. The river confluence viewpoint here is exceptional, with wide gravel bars and the Selwyn Range visible to the east.

Boat access from Minto Landing is the most common approach. Yukon government operates the site and has interpretive staff present in summer. There are basic outhouses on site. No fuel, no supplies, no vehicle access — plan accordingly before committing to the river run.
