Sagwon Bluffs Dispersed Camping

Remote tundra camping along the Sagavanirktok River with expansive Arctic plain views and occasional caribou migrations.

Scattered informal camping spots along the bluffs overlooking the Sagavanirktok River, roughly 60 miles south of Deadhorse. The tundra here opens up into vast rolling plains stretching to the horizon, with the river winding below through willows and sedge. During migration seasons, massive caribou herds cross this area — an unforgettable wilderness spectacle when timing aligns.

No facilities whatsoever, just pull-offs from the main road onto firm tundra. Ground can be boggy in spots, so stick to established tracks. Mosquitoes and gnats are brutal in summer. Weather exposure is extreme with no windbreaks — secure everything and expect sudden squalls. Best accessed June through early September.
