Elkhorn Resort Gold River Fuel and Supplies
Gold River is the jumping-off town for several serious Vancouver Island west-coast runs — the Nootka Sound FSR, the Bedwell River Road to Della Falls, and the back routes toward Tahsis. The Husky and independent stations in town are your last chance for diesel, propane refills, and grocery basics before you’re on gravel for a long time. Stock up here. The town is small but functional — hardware store, grocery, and a few places to grab food before you head out.
Gold River sits at the end of Highway 28 from Campbell River, roughly 90 kilometres in from the Island Highway. The roads leading west from here to Nootka Sound are active logging corridors — radio protocols apply, and schedules matter. Confirm FSR access conditions with the local contractors or the BC Forest Service before committing. This town punches above its weight as a basecamp for west coast Island runs.
Last stop before Nootka's gravel maze.
