Ouachita National Forest Upper Kiamichi River Dispersed Area
A string of informal camping spots along Forest Road 6032 following the Upper Kiamichi River through dense hardwood forest. Sites are scattered along a 3-mile stretch, most accommodating 1-2 rigs with fire rings and flat spots carved out by decades of use. The river runs clear and cold year-round with several deep pools perfect for swimming. Expect total isolation – you might not see another soul for days.
Access via FR 6032 from Talihina requires high-clearance – the road deteriorates after mile 4 with several creek crossings and loose rock sections. Best in spring and fall when the forest explodes with color. No facilities, pack everything out. Road becomes impassable during heavy rains.
