Coconino National Forest Mormon Lake Dispersed Sites
Numerous established sites ring Mormon Lake on forest roads and two-tracks at 7,100 feet elevation. Mix of lakeside spots and forest clearings in tall ponderosa pines, most with fire rings and room for multiple rigs. Lake is often dry except during wet years, leaving a large meadow. Heavy use on summer weekends by Phoenix and Flagstaff crowds seeking cooler temperatures. Excellent for large groups.
Easy access on maintained dirt roads suitable for any vehicle when dry, but can become impassable mud bogs during monsoon season (July-August). No services or water except the lake when present. Popular hunting area in fall with increased traffic and potential restrictions.
High-elevation lake camping in tall pines.
