Porcupine Hills BLM Dispersed Area

Dispersed Camping

This BLM dispersed area sits on rolling sagebrush hills about 30 miles southeast of Gillette, offering dozens of informal sites scattered across several square miles of open range. Most sites are pull-through friendly for big rigs, with established fire rings and decent cell service from Verizon towers. Hunters pack it during deer and antelope seasons (September-October), but it’s nearly empty otherwise. Wind can be relentless — bring extra stakes.

Access via dirt ranch roads off Highway 59 — look for the small BLM boundary signs. Roads are fine for any vehicle when dry but turn to gumbo when wet. No facilities, no water, but the night sky here rivals anything in the region. Cattle wander through occasionally.
