Chippewa National Forest Norway Beach Road Dispersed Sites
A string of unmarked pullouts along the gravel Norway Beach Road provides quiet dispersed camping on the north shore of Lake Winnibigoshish. Most sites sit in mixed pine and birch forest with filtered lake views, accommodating 2-4 rigs each with natural fire rings and room for small trailers. The area sees light use outside of fishing opener and deer season, making it solid for solitude seekers.
Access via County Road 9 to Forest Road 2171 (Norway Beach Road) — the road deteriorates as you head west, becoming rougher dirt with some washboard sections. High-clearance vehicles recommended for the better sites further from pavement. No facilities, pack out trash, and respect the 14-day limit that’s actually enforced here.
