BLM Pyramid Lake Dispersed Area
Scattered dispersed sites along the eastern shore of Pyramid Lake offer some of Nevada’s most surreal camping. You’re pitching camp in high desert sage country at 3,800 feet, with the massive tufa formations and alkaline waters stretching to the horizon. Sites are mostly just flat spots in the sage — no amenities, but plenty of space to spread out. Wind can howl across the lake, and summer temps swing from blazing days to surprisingly cool nights.
Access is via the Pyramid Lake Scenic Byway, then dirt roads that branch toward the shore. The area sees steady use from Reno locals on weekends, but midweek you’ll likely have miles of shoreline to yourself. Bring all your water — the lake is too alkaline to filter. Fire restrictions common May through September.
