BLM Spangler Hills OHV Area Dispersed Sites
Spangler Hills offers unrestricted dispersed camping across thousands of acres of Mojave Desert terrain designated for off-highway vehicle use. The area features rolling hills, desert washes, and scattered Joshua trees with camping allowed anywhere outside designated wilderness boundaries. Popular with dirt bike and ATV groups during cooler months, but the vast acreage means you can usually find solitude away from the main riding areas. No facilities except vault toilets at the main entrance staging area.
Access via Spangler Hills Road off Highway 395 north of Ridgecrest. The area is designed for OHV use, so expect to hear motors during peak seasons. Sand can be challenging for street tires in some areas. Fire restrictions typically apply year-round due to extreme fire danger in desert vegetation.
