BLM Red Rock Canyon Dispersed Area

Dispersed Camping

Red Rock Canyon offers dozens of informal dispersed sites spread across several square miles of BLM land northeast of Mojave. The area sits in classic high desert terrain with scattered Joshua trees, red sandstone outcroppings, and wide-open views toward the Sierra Nevada. Sites range from pull-offs barely off the pavement to more secluded spots tucked behind rock formations. Popular with climbers heading to nearby crags, but plenty of room to spread out. Fire restrictions typically in effect May through October.

Access via Highway 14 with numerous dirt roads branching east and west. Most sites accessible to any vehicle, though high-clearance helps for the more remote spots. The area can get busy on weekends with LA-based recreationists, but midweek offers genuine solitude. No facilities of any kind — pack out everything.
