The Vizcaíno Desert stretches for nearly 100 miles between Guerrero Negro and San Ignacio, offering numerous pull-offs and camping spots for overlanders. Most sites are simple dirt clearings off Highway 1, protected by low hills and desert scrub. The landscape is stark but beautiful — endless horizons dotted with cardón cacti and volcanic mesas.
No facilities or water sources exist out here, so come completely self-contained. Wind can be fierce, especially in winter and spring. Many spots have evidence of previous camping (fire rings, cleared areas) but respect the desert and pack out all trash. Cell service is nonexistent between towns.
