Pine Barrens Speedwell Forge Road Dispersed Sites
A handful of primitive sites scattered along the old Speedwell Forge Road, near the ruins of a 19th-century iron forge. The area offers 2-3 decent spots for small rigs in sandy clearings surrounded by pitch pine and scrub oak. Stone foundations from the old forge operation are visible nearby, adding historical interest. Fire restrictions apply during dry periods, and water must be packed in.
The access road is pure deep sand requiring aired-down tires and patience — easy to get stuck without proper technique. Road can be impassable after heavy rains when it becomes a swamp. Best accessed from the east via County Road 539.
