Wharton State Forest Batona Trail Mile 12 Dispersed Area
A cluster of unmarked dispersed sites tucked into the pine and oak forest roughly 12 miles south along the Batona Trail from Atsion. The sandy clearings can handle 3-4 rigs with space between them, surrounded by typical Pine Barrens scrub and the occasional cedar bog. Fire rings are present but bring your own water and pack out everything. Popular with hikers doing the full Batona Trail, so expect foot traffic during peak seasons.
Access requires following unmarked sand tracks off Quaker Bridge Road — GPS essential as the maze of old logging roads can be confusing. Deep sand in places demands aired-down tires or 4WD. No cell service and completely dark at night.
