Wharton State Forest Carranza Road Dispersed Sites
Scattered primitive camping areas along the network of sand roads branching off Carranza Road in the heart of the Pine Barrens. Sites are typically small clearings in the pine and oak forest with sandy soil that drains quickly. Fire rings are common at established spots, and the open canopy provides good stargazing. Can accommodate 2-3 vehicles per site depending on location.
Access via Carranza Road from Route 206, then various unmarked sand roads deeper into the forest. High-clearance helpful but not required for most sites, though deep sand can be tricky when wet. Very quiet except during hunting seasons. Bring all water and be prepared for no cell service once you’re off the main road.
