Keystone Ancient Forest Preserve
This hidden gem protects some of Oklahoma’s last remaining virgin forest, with ancient post oak and eastern red cedar trees that predate European settlement. The 1.25-mile interpretive trail winds through towering specimens, some over 500 years old and 3 feet in diameter. It’s a stark contrast to the surrounding farmland and offers genuine solitude most days.
Located about 20 miles west of Tulsa via Highway 412 and Keystone Lake Road. The preserve is managed by the Nature Conservancy with minimal facilities — just a small parking area and the trail. No camping allowed, but it makes an excellent leg-stretcher when running between the Osage Hills and eastern mountain trails.
