Black Mesa State Park Campground

Black Mesa sits at 4,973 feet in Oklahoma’s remote panhandle, offering 15 RV sites and a few tent spots in genuine high desert country. The campground feels more like Colorado than Oklahoma, with juniper-dotted mesas and massive sky views. Sites have electric hookups but no water — bring what you need. The real draw is the solitude and star-gazing potential once the sun drops.

Access via paved roads, but the final approach is gravel. Spring and fall are ideal; summer heat can be brutal with zero shade. The nature preserve trail to Oklahoma’s highest point starts right from the campground. This is serious frontier country — fuel up in Boise City before heading out.
