Sam Houston National Forest Kelly Creek Dispersed Area
Several unofficial campsites scattered along Kelly Creek Road where it crosses the seasonal waterway. Sites are basic dirt clearings under towering pines, with enough space for a few rigs per spot. Fire rings are present but not maintained — bring your own grate. The creek usually runs October through April but can dry up completely in summer drought.
Access is via Forest Road 217 off FM 1375, then follow Kelly Creek Road for about 2 miles. The road gets soft and rutted when wet, requiring high clearance. Popular with local hunters during deer season (November-January), so expect company. No facilities whatsoever — pack out everything.
