White Mountain National Forest Wild River Dispersed Sites

Dispersed Camping

A handful of primitive sites along the Wild River corridor, tucked into mixed hardwood forest with access to crystal-clear mountain water. Sites are small and basic — just cleared spots for tents or small rigs with fire rings fashioned from local stones. The river provides excellent swimming holes and brook trout fishing. Peak fall foliage season sees moderate use, but spring and summer often offer complete solitude.

Requires navigating several miles of rough forest service roads with water bars and occasional washouts. High-clearance recommended, especially during mud season. No facilities whatsoever — pack everything in, pack everything out. Bears are common; proper food storage required.
