This 48,000-acre BLM preserve protects one of the most significant petroglyph sites in the Southwest — over 300 panels with thousands of individual designs created by Native peoples over centuries. The main North McCullough Trail leads to the densest concentration of rock art, while backcountry routes explore remote washes and peaks. Desert bighorn sheep, kit foxes, and Gila monsters call this rugged landscape home.
Access via gravel roads from Henderson requires high-clearance vehicles for the better trailheads. No developed camping within the NCA, but dispersed camping allowed on adjacent BLM lands. Bring plenty of water — this is Mojave Desert at its most austere. Best visited October through April when temperatures are tolerable.
