Raccoon Creek State Park Campground
Raccoon Creek State Park’s campground features 15 primitive sites scattered along a wooded hillside overlooking the Raccoon Creek valley. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table, but no hookups or modern amenities—this is old-school camping with vault toilets and hand-pump water. The campground rarely fills outside of hunting season, making it a reliable overnight stop for overlanders exploring the region’s back roads. Sites 8-12 offer the most privacy, tucked into a hollow below the main camping area.
Access is via a narrow paved road that becomes gravel for the final mile to the campground. The park operates on an honor system—drop fees in the iron ranger and claim any available site. Water pumps can be finicky in shoulder seasons, so carry backup. Open year-round but water is shut off November through March.
