Old Faithful Geyser
This cone geyser has been erupting predictably for over 150 years, making it the park’s most reliable thermal feature. Water temperatures reach 204°F and eruptions last 1.5 to 5 minutes. The massive visitor center provides eruption predictions (usually accurate within 10 minutes) and viewing areas accommodate thousands during peak season. Best viewing is from the boardwalk benches closest to the geyser.
Located in Yellowstone’s Upper Geyser Basin, accessible via the Grand Loop Road. Summer crowds can be overwhelming — arrive early morning or late evening for space and parking. Winter access requires snowcoach or snowmobile. The entire geyser basin contains over 150 thermal features within walking distance, making this a full-day stop.
