Caño Cristales Los Ochos Swimming Holes
A series of eight connected natural pools carved into colorful bedrock, each about waist-deep with crystal-clear water and sandy bottoms. The famous aquatic plant blooms from July to November paint the riverbed in reds, yellows, and greens — outside this window, it’s still beautiful but lacks the rainbow effect. Swimming is allowed in designated pools only.
Accessed via a 45-minute hike from La Macarena village, with mandatory local guide requirement. Park authorities limit daily visitors and require advance permits through authorized tour operators. Bring reef-safe sunscreen — regular sunscreen is prohibited to protect the delicate ecosystem.
