Tuttle Creek Campground

BLM campground at the foot of the Sierra Nevada with vault toilets and fire rings, perfect base camp for Alabama Hills exploration.

Tuttle Creek sits in a sandy wash below the dramatic eastern Sierra escarpment, offering 85 sites spread across several loops with vault toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables. The campground fills up during peak season (March-May, October-November) when wildflowers bloom and temperatures are perfect. Sites are mostly level dirt with decent spacing, though wind can kick up sand storms.

Access is via paved Whitney Portal Road then a short gravel spur. Popular with climbers heading to Mount Whitney and overlanders exploring Alabama Hills. No water or hookups — come prepared. Campground host on-site during busy seasons.
