Laguna Ojo de Liebre Dispersed Camping

This massive coastal lagoon on Baja’s Pacific side offers some of Mexico’s most remote beach camping, with miles of flat sandy spots overlooking the water. From January through March, gray whales come here to calve, often visible from camp without binoculars. The camping is completely undeveloped — just you, the desert, and occasional pelican flyovers. Wind can howl across the open flats, so stake everything down properly.

Access requires 25 kilometers of washboard dirt road from the Guerrero Negro highway. Any vehicle can make it, but it’s slow going and hard on suspension. Bring all water and supplies — the nearest services are back in Guerrero Negro. No shade whatsoever, so plan for sun protection and afternoon winds.
