Piute Creek Petroglyphs

Point of Interest

Tucked in a narrow canyon along Piute Creek, these well-preserved petroglyphs showcase hundreds of years of Native American artistry. The rock panels feature bighorn sheep, geometric patterns, and human figures etched into dark desert varnish. It’s a humbling spot where you can sit in the shade of canyon walls and contemplate the countless travelers who passed this water source over the millennia.

Park where Piute Creek crosses the Mojave Road and hike upstream about 0.3 miles to the main panels. The creek runs seasonally, but even when dry, the canyon provides shade and wind protection. Respect the artwork—don’t touch or climb on the panels. Early morning or late afternoon light makes the petroglyphs more visible.
