BLM Hole in the Rock Road Mile 47 Dispersed Area
Mile 47 sits deep in the heart of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area backcountry, offering scattered camping spots among sage and slickrock with panoramic views toward Lake Powell and the Henry Mountains. This is proper middle-of-nowhere camping — no water, no toilets, no cell service, just you and the high desert silence. Fire restrictions typically run April through October.
Access requires 47 miles of washboard dirt road from Highway 12. High-clearance recommended but not mandatory for most spots. The road gets progressively rougher past Mile 40, and weather can make it impassable. Stock up on water and fuel in Escalante — it’s your last chance for 100+ miles.
