Conasauga River Dispersed Camping Area
A collection of informal camping spots along the Conasauga River where it flows out of the Cohutta Wilderness. Sites are scattered along the riverbank with fire rings built by previous visitors, surrounded by thick hardwood forest. The river runs clear and cold year-round with several deep pools perfect for cooling off after dusty trail days. Expect to share the area with trout anglers and day hikers from the wilderness trailheads upstream.
Access via Forest Road 17 then FR 17B — both are rough gravel requiring high clearance. No facilities whatsoever, pack everything out. Sites fill up on weekends during peak season. River levels can rise quickly during heavy rain, choose camp spots well above the waterline.
