Amicalola Falls State Park
Amicalola Falls drops 729 feet in cascading tiers, making it the tallest waterfall in Georgia. The park offers multiple viewpoints accessible by short hiking trails, plus a visitor center and lodge. A paved approach trail leads to the falls base, while a steeper trail climbs to the top. The area serves as the southern terminus approach to the Appalachian Trail.
Located between Dahlonega and Ellijay, it’s perfectly positioned for overlanders running the northern Georgia mountain trails. The falls run strongest in spring and after heavy rains. Parking can fill up on weekends during peak fall color season, but weekday visits offer better solitude and photo opportunities.
