Great Basin National Park Upper Lehman Creek Campground
Upper Lehman Creek sits in an aspen grove at 7,300 feet, where Lehman Creek provides the constant soundtrack of mountain water over granite. The 22 sites here fill up quick during summer months as overlanders discover this hidden gem tucked beneath Wheeler Peak. Each site comes with picnic table and fire ring, with the creek running close enough to most spots for easy water access. The elevation means cool nights even in July — pack layers.
The 12-mile road up from the visitor center climbs steadily but stays paved all the way to camp. This puts you right at the trailhead for the bristlecone pine grove, some of the oldest living things on Earth. The campground operates June through September, weather dependent. No reservations — it’s first-come, first-served, so arrive early during peak times.
