Grand Bay National Wildlife Refuge Observation Tower
The observation tower rises above the sawgrass and provides the only elevated view for miles in this flat coastal country. From the top deck you can see across Grand Bay to the Alabama line, plus the maze of tidal creeks that make this refuge a critical stopover for migrating waterfowl. Early morning and late afternoon bring the best light and wildlife activity — herons, egrets, and occasional gators in the channels below.
Tower sits 0.8 miles down a boardwalk from the parking area, accessible year-round but can be slippery when wet. No facilities at the tower itself, but the refuge headquarters has restrooms and water. Mosquitoes are brutal May through September, so bring repellent.
