Putorana Plateau Research Station Base Camp
Abandoned Soviet-era research station with concrete foundations and metal buildings, now used by overlanders as a sheltered camp spot. Three main structures still have roofs, providing wind protection in the brutal plateau weather. No facilities beyond basic shelter, but the location offers spectacular views across the tundra plateau and access to multiple geological survey tracks.
Reached via 47km of rough dirt track from the main Norilsk supply road. High-clearance 4WD essential, track becomes impassable in wet conditions. Station sits at 600m elevation where weather changes rapidly. Popular base camp for exploring the plateau’s network of mining and survey roads that thread between the countless lakes.
