Severo-Eniseysky Ridge Mining Road

This forgotten Soviet mining road cuts through the Severo-Eniseysky Ridge in Russia’s far north, originally built to access uranium deposits during the Cold War. The route follows old geological survey tracks and mining haul roads through pristine Arctic tundra, passing abandoned exploration camps and crossing dozens of unnamed streams. Key waypoints include the derelict Severny Mine complex at kilometer 85 and the spectacular Ledyanaya River gorge where the road drops 300 meters in just 8 kilometers.

Expert-level difficulty with deep mud bogs, river fords up to hood-deep, and navigation by GPS only as road signs disappeared decades ago. Requires expedition-equipped vehicle with winch, recovery gear, and 14+ days of fuel and supplies. Best attempted June-August when rivers are passable and temperatures stay above freezing. No cell service, no rescue – this is true wilderness where mechanical failure can be fatal.
