Katherine River Natural Swimming Hole
Series of deep rock pools fed by springs and seasonal flow, located just upstream from Katherine’s town bridge. The water runs clear year-round, though levels drop significantly in the dry season. Popular with locals for swimming and fishing, but the upstream pools away from town offer better water quality for filtering. Watch for freshwater crocodiles — they’re generally harmless but worth knowing about.
Park near the old railway bridge and walk 200 meters downstream to the main pools. Road access is sealed all the way, making this an easy water resupply for rigs heading north or south on the Stuart Highway. Dry season is best for access, wet season brings stronger flow but muddier conditions.
