Col de Turini Rally Stages

Where rally legends are born and broken

Difficult

The Col de Turini has been breaking rally drivers’ hearts and making legends since 1911, its 30 kilometers of switchbacks climbing from La Bollène-Vésubie through Maritime Alps forests toward the 5,105-foot summit. This is where Sébastien Loeb carved his name into rally history and where amateurs discover the difference between wanting to be fast and actually being fast. The route threads through the Forêt de Turini’s ancient chestnuts and larches, past stone villages clinging to impossible slopes, before cresting at the col where the view stretches from the Italian border to the Mediterranean.

Technical driving on narrow tarmac demands absolute precision—there’s no forgiveness for overcooking a corner with a 1,000-foot drop waiting. Any sporty car can handle the surface, but this isn’t a beginner’s route; local knowledge of blind corners and oncoming traffic patterns separates survivors from statistics. Best driven in dry conditions from April through November, with limited camping but plenty of mountain refuges. You come here to test your mettle against one of Europe’s most demanding mountain passes—and maybe understand why rally drivers speak of Turini with reverence.
