Kulusuk Valley Helicopter Pad Access Road

The Kulusuk Valley helicopter pad access road serves as a critical supply route for helicopter operations supporting research stations and remote settlements along Greenland’s eastern coast. This 18-kilometer technical track climbs from sea level through boulder fields and loose scree, gaining nearly 2,000 feet as it winds between glacially-carved peaks. The route includes several technical rock gardens and a notorious creek crossing at kilometer 12 where spring runoff can make passage impossible.

This is a difficult route demanding experienced drivers and well-equipped vehicles with rock sliders, skid plates, and at minimum 33-inch all-terrain tires. The road is only accessible June through early October, with July and August offering the most reliable conditions. No permits needed but coordinate with local helicopter operations as the landing zone sees regular traffic. Fuel and supplies must be carried from Kulusuk village, and emergency evacuation options are extremely limited. The reward is accessing some of East Greenland’s most pristine wilderness and spectacular mountain scenery.
