Hierve el Agua Petrified Waterfalls
A geological wonder where mineral-rich springs have deposited calcium carbonate for thousands of years, creating white cliffs that look like massive frozen waterfalls cascading down the mountainside. Two main pools allow for swimming in the warm, mineral-rich water with spectacular valley views. The larger ‘infinity pool’ sits right at the cliff edge 1,600 meters above sea level.
Reached via 14 kilometers of winding mountain road from Mitla — paved but narrow with steep drop-offs. Small entrance fee and basic facilities including food stalls. Gets crowded on weekends and holidays. Best light for photography is morning or late afternoon when the white formations glow against the green valley.
