Arches National Park Fiery Furnace Guided Walk

Point of Interest

The Fiery Furnace is a labyrinthine network of narrow sandstone canyons and towering fins accessible only through guided ranger walks. This isn’t your typical nature stroll — expect moderate scrambling over ledges, squeezing through tight slots, and following unmarked routes that would be impossible to navigate solo. Rangers lead groups of 25 maximum through the maze, sharing geological insights while keeping everyone on track through passages barely wide enough for a backpack.

Reservations are mandatory and fill up weeks in advance during peak season (March-October). The 3-hour walk requires closed-toe shoes and basic scrambling ability. No pets, no shortcuts, no wandering off — the terrain is genuinely confusing and rescue operations are expensive. Book online through Recreation.gov or snag same-day tickets at the visitor center if you’re lucky.
