Banning State Park Kettle River Trailhead

Trailhead

This trailhead provides access to Banning State Park’s network of hiking trails along the Kettle River, including routes to Hell’s Gate rapids and the old Banning townsite ruins. The parking area accommodates larger rigs and serves as a staging point for exploring the park’s dramatic sandstone formations carved by the rushing river. Several trail options range from easy walks to more challenging scrambles over rock ledges.

The main trail to Hell’s Gate is about 2 miles roundtrip with some rocky sections that require careful footing. Spring snowmelt makes for spectacular rapids viewing, but trails can be muddy. Winter access is possible but not maintained — bring microspikes for icy conditions near the water.
