Rabbit Flat Roadhouse
Rabbit Flat is the lone roadhouse on the Tanami Road, sitting out in the Tanami Desert between Alice Springs and Halls Creek. Out here that makes it a lifeline, not a luxury. It’s been known for diesel and unleaded, basic meals, cold drinks and a bush pub atmosphere where drovers, miners and overlanders swap road reports over the bar. Expect a no-frills outback stop with serious character.
Don’t count on it being open. Rabbit Flat has historically run a short weekly schedule, usually Friday to Monday only, and it shuts for the wet season. It has also changed hands and reopened over the years. Check opening days and fuel availability before you commit, and carry enough fuel and water to reach the next stop on your own. The Tanami is corrugated gravel that gets cut up fast after rain, and recovery out here is expensive and slow. Have a dirty day.
Tanami's lone roadhouse, open only part of the week.
