This county beach park sits on a crescent of black sand backed by coconut palms, about 20 miles south of Kailua-Kona. Six tent sites and a handful of picnic tables spread along the shoreline under the palms. The snorkeling can be solid on calm days, and you’ll often see spinner dolphins in the bay. Restrooms, outdoor showers, and drinking water available. Gets busy on weekends with local families.
Access is via a steep, winding 2-mile road down from Highway 11 — fine for any vehicle but take it easy on the switchbacks. Beach can get rough surf in winter months. No reservations, but sites fill up fast on holiday weekends.
